Council of the City of Sydney: Make the Fitzroy Gardens Playground plans sympathetic to heritage values

Council's current revised plans for the Fitzroy Gardens Playground, Kings Cross, feature planters and other elements in a stark white, sharp-edged minimalist design. This design is out-of-character with the colours and materials of the rest of the heritage-listed Fitzroy Gardens, which is celebrated for its earthen colours, soft-edged naturalism, and unique brick and tile materials. Council's current plans will lead to an ugly mish-mash of styles, which could be partly avoided by the plans being changed to include colours and materials similar to those of the rest of the Gardens.

Make the Fitzroy Gardens Playground plans sympathetic to heritage values

Council's current revised plans for the Fitzroy Gardens Playground, Kings Cross, feature planters and other elements in a stark white, sharp-edged minimalist design.

This design is out-of-character with the colours and materials of the rest of the heritage-listed Fitzroy Gardens, which is celebrated for its earthen colours, soft-edged naturalism, and unique brick and tile materials.

Council's current plans will lead to an ugly mish-mash of styles.

I urgently request that you lobby Council to change its plans to include colours and materials similar to those of the rest of the Gardens.

In the comments section of this petition, many people have (a) rejected Council's revised plans in part or in whole; and (b) insisted that the Lord Mayor's May 2011 promise for 'improvements to play equipment and addition of soft fall in the existing children's playground' be honoured. I request that you also lobby Council regarding these demands.
