It's no surprise that university tuition has been on the rise for years now, but recently the situation has gotten out of hand; with over 20% of bachelor degree holders have $25,000 in debt after graduating. The main reason behind the rise in tuition is because of the government’s lack of university funding. Instead, they pour out funding for “private expenditures”, which leads to the the universities being pressured to find more funds for scholarships and student aid. However, the need for scholarship funds will just lead to the increase of tuition; creating a vicious cycle. As a result to accelerating university tuition, millions of dollars of student loans are racked up every year; with $662 million of revenue from loan interest rates was made in the 2016-2017 school year.

There are many students who show academic potential, but is often dragged down because of their financial background; preventing them from attending the same post secondary education as others as the economic gap continues to expand. Especially due to the fact that in today’s society, post-secondary education has become a standard job requirement, many find themselves struggling to finding a well paying job. However, lowering university tuition fees for Canadian students will allow students to have more capital, providing them with more opportunities and allows them to take more risks within the economy.

By signing this petition, you are showing your support for our cause; and raising awareness of this issue that looms over thousands of students. Increasing post-secondary tuition comes with many economic dangers, such as student loans and a larger economic gap. Sign today to make a difference!
