To protect the sensitive Watershed of Skidegate Lake-headwaters to the Copper River, a salmon bearing river which supports Coho, Pink, Chum, Sockeye, and Steelhead, and is a food fish source for Haida and local families on Haida Gwaii, and is being negatively impacted by clear cut logging practices in the forest surrounding the headwaters.
Stop habitat destruction due to clear cut logging practices. To protect the diverse and unique ecosystem of the forest around Skidegate Lake, which contains medicinal and edible mushrooms, traditional medicinal plants, and home to wildlife such as Ursus Americanus Carlottae, a unique subspecies of American black bear unique to Haida Gwaii, and blue listed birds such as goshawks, blue herons, saw whet owls.
Protect the accessible recreational site around Skidegate Lake from clear cut logging, as it is accessed by locals and tourists( worldwide) for hiking, mushroom picking, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. This area has has huge potential as an eco- tourist site, a green industry. Specifically blocks across from the recreational beach site and along the lake by Copper Bay Road.
