Criminal Justice Reform!

I believe in equal rights for all, the legal system is flawed design for many to fail. Most offenders receive the maximum punishment for a minimal offense and it needs to end. Most States, for non-violent offenders will allow you to receive a non-disclosure of information however depending on the job title or position you apply for the offense may still appear which makes me wonder, how is that fair? The president has talked about the unfairness of the criminal justice system since his time in the Senate and the administration has worked to enhance fairness and efficiency at all phases however we need more to happen. I am pushing for real reform, suggest a ten year time limit for the non-violent offense to appear on a background check for a job, and if the judge grants a Non-disclosure of information it should not appear at all, just as having your record expunged; placing a limit on employer background checks so we can give ALL people wanting and working for a second chance a real shot at having one. By reexamining how our system works you will have people wanting to return to school to become nurses, teachers or work for the government as they feel they can and won't be hindered. I speak from experience, my record was sealed for an offense which happen in 1994 and I have never been in trouble since. I've worked to obtained my Associates in Arts degree from Houston Community College (graduated with honors-dean list recipient 2016) and I am now working on my Bachelors Degree from the University of Houston (Business Degree with a concentration in Healthcare Administration) with a current GPA of 4.0, my second chance was granted, so I now work to aid others. Our country faces a vicious cycle of poverty, criminality and incarceration that traps too many Americans and weakens too many communities. We can build and rebuild by allowing a fair chance for all and a fresh start for many.. Please consider my petition.
