Support for a dog park in Ridgewood at Grover Cleveland Park!

Grover Cleveland Park in Ridgewood has a little something for everyone- except for our pups! With no other dog park in the area, The Dog Parents of Ridgewood are asking for a small part of the 5 acre Grover Cleveland Park to become a designated dog run. While dogs are allowed off leash in the park before 9 am and after 9pm, we need a safe fenced in area that can be used by dogs throughout the day to keep our pets and other park goers safe.

The hundreds of families that bring their dogs to Grover Cleveland know that this wonderful park is sadly unsafe for our fluffy friends, but we have no other option in the immediate area-- whether it's worrying about our buddy running after a squirrel and ending up in the busy street, or finding a dangerous chicken bone in the grass, we know that without a designated fenced in area, this park is not suitable for our pets. Yet the benefits of having a space for our dogs to run around and play with each other is enormous- we all know how important interaction and exercise are for our pets' and our own well being!

We would love to troubleshoot with the city and other dog owners the best solutions to this problem and what the community needs are.

Benefits to Other Park Users:

- allows users that might be afraid of dogs and parents with small children to use the park without worrying about an off leash dog coming near them

- helps keep the rest of the park clear of pet waste

- allows cyclist/ skaters/ bladers/ scooters to operate without dog traffic

- would help park sanitation workers be able to work safely without dogs getting in their way and relieves their unfair burden of monitoring  improper use of park spaces by dog owners in the athletic areas

Benefits to Dogs and Dog Owners:

- would allow dogs safety and freedom in a controlled safe environment, especially

- provides a community space to grow a dog parent network to connect and share resources

- a space for off leash fun for those owners with alternative schedules that cannot make it to the park before 9 AM or after 9 PM

- keeps pets safe from picking up dangerous trash and glass that is in other sections of the park

- keeps the other sections of the park clear of danger for dog walkers whose pets do not do well around other dogs

If you are able to volunteer for this project we would love your support (especially anyone who might have prior experience communicating with local government)- but any amount of time or input you can give is appreciated! If you are able to be a "committed volunteer", please indicate when you sign. For everyone else, your name is enough.

By signing this petition you will support the creation of our local dog park in Ridgewood. We hope that with enough signatures, the Parks Dept will commit to the institutional & financial support we need to get this space up to dog friendly standards.
