Persuade Marion Council SA not to sell off Community open space

This petition had 99 supporters

The residents of Marino in the City of Marion, are against the proposal to sell off 40% of the McConnell Avenue Reserve and want Council to understand the negative impact of this decision on the health and well being of Marino residents now and in the future, if the revocation and disposal of the parcel of community land proceeds.

Marino is a hilly suburb with relatively few accessible level public open spaces, and when compared to other suburbs is well below the recognised minimum standard for open space provisions. With the planned increase in population  density within Marino ( potential doubling),  such scarce open space is even more valuable to the community and should be preserved for future generations as open space.

Because of its safe and accessible location, the reserve provides a unique level setting. Here residents and the wider community can enjoy recreation and leisure,  connected to nature and enjoying the expansive views of our beautiful suburb. The reserve is part of a network of interconnected open spaces which encourage healthy, connected and active neighborhoods.

The potential revenue for Council from  this small parcel of public land, will pail into insignificance when it becomes necessary to create open space in the future via expensive acquisition of private land, to meet the needs of a growing suburb....When its Gone its Gone! Please sign our petition.
