Chesapeake Residents Against High-Density Development Fernwood Chase Project
This petition made change with 782 supporters!
A coalition of communities surrounding the Fernwood Farms area (River Walk, Dominion Lakes, Fernwood Farms, Riverwalk Estates, The Preserve, Crestwood, and others) are opposed to the proposal to develop the area bordered by Fernwood Farms Road and Great Bridge Boulevard into a high density, townhouse-based development. We firmly believe that the proposed development will severely exacerbate an already challenging flooding and stormwater drainage problem, and will significantly contribute to traffic congestion on Great Bridge Boulevard between the Dominion Boulevard/464/64 interchange and Battlefield Boulevard.
The proposal to build more than 290 townhouses/condos and add 400-500 cars to the daily traffic problem in the area is short-sighted and does not meet the development criteria the surrounding communities want for the area under consideration. Though the property is 90 acres, the development is proposed for the 30 buildable acres. The developer and city are using the 90 acre figure as the measure for assessing that the development is a medium density proposal--290 properties in 30 acres is a lot more dense than 290 in 90.
The intent of this petition is to let our City Council members know we want them to deny the Fernwood Chase development as currently proposed.
