Help for the Homeless: Support the Berkeley Way Project

The City Council is voting this Tuesday, July 11th, to give the Berkeley Way Project, “Housing for the Homeless,” $3.1 million in funding for predevelopment. This money is crucial to speed up this project and combat the housing crisis Berkeley faces every day. By giving this project $3.1 million we have the opportunity to bring $17 million to our city through cap and trade funding. $17 million that can make this project a reality, attract matching federal and state funds, and provide housing for our most vulnerable communities.

The Berkeley Housing Advisory Commission recently approved this funding and recommended that the City Council allocate the funds to this project. Many of the commissioners stressed the urgency of this project and its effectiveness in helping the housing crisis in Berkeley.

This is the largest proposed project in Berkeley for affordable housing and permanent housing for the homeless. It is time we take initiative and make this project a reality.

For about 900 homeless people in Berkeley currently without shelter, this project can’t wait any longer! Please sign to show your support and urge the Council to allocate the funds!
