The residents of county road 50 in Essex County currently pay the same or more for their internet compared to those who have access to high-speed internet elsewhere in the county. Yet they must rely on spotty slow satellite internet to get by. The internet speeds on a perfect day (no weather, environmental, or service-related issues) is routinely 1/10th that of the internet of high-speed users elsewhere. for years town council has heard our calls for better services but as of 2022 have not delivered on the demands of their taxpayers. We are calling upon them to hear the voices of their citizens and to deliver the services they need. As a result of the pandemic, residents have been forced to rely on the internet to maintain their occupations and quality of life, and residents of county road 50 are at an inequitable disadvantage to others in the county who have access to high-speed connections. As of right now, there is a "commitment" from the province to service all areas by 2025. this is not acceptable. already we are going on our third year of this pandemic and according to this "commitment" we would be stuck without service for another 3 years. This simply won't do to have our community disenfranchised and denied equitable access for what likely may be the full duration of this health crisis. We ask and expect this petition to be heard and for our needs as a community to finally be met by our elected representative within the 2022-2023 time frame.
