It is clear that ALPA members want greater opportunity for easier engagement in their union.

While Covid has demonstrably affected our ability to be engaged in our union, even highly attended meetings are a mere small percentage of the Council 5 membership.

As recent ALPA MEC and LEC functions have demonstarted the ZOOM platorm can be utilized to bring the members to the union and the union to the members.   Beacuse there is not enough time between now and the upcoming Council 5 elections to pass the following resolution, please sign on to this petition to tell the Council 5 Officers that we want this resolution implemented for this upcoming election cycle.

If you agree with the following please sign this petition.  We will ask the Council 5 Officers to implement this for the upcoming Council 5 election.

COUNCIL 5 ZOOM DEBATES FOR LEC REPRESENTATIVES IN UPCOMING ELECTION

Whereas ALPA members have been calling for greater access to participation in their union, and

Whereas ALPA representatives have long committed to increasing and enhancing access and participation by the membership, and

Whereas technology has caught up to the desires of the membership and leadership with MEC meetings, and LEC meetings being conducted via ZOOM sessions.

Therefore Be it Resolved that the pilots of Council 5 direct the officers of Council 5 to hold at least one, but no more than two ZOOM platform debates for each of the representative positions in the upcoming Council 5 election, as well as all future Council 5 elections, subject to the following rules:

1.     ZOOM debate shall be recorded to ensure that all Council 5 pilots may view the debate if they cannot watch it live.

2.     Two moderators will be chosen, one by each candidate.  The moderators will take turns asking questions.

3.     The questions asked will be decided beforehand and agreed to by the two moderators with each side granted an equal number of questions, and equal periods of time to respond as well as rebuttal.

4.     The debate will be no less than one hour, and no more than one and a half hours.
