I have always thought of Costco as a community friendly company and a company that treats employees well with decent wages, schedules, and benefits. I felt our Langford Costco also gave our youth a good start at independence and the understanding of what a good employer ought to be.  Well, my feelings have changed.

I was in store recently and observed that our local Costco in Langford introduced self serve checkouts in the store. Shame on you Costco!!

Self serve checkouts reduce available jobs in the community and save on benefits in order to  increase profits, and frankly I was surprised to see this corporate greed model that was displaying itself as I watched customers work the Costco Self Checkouts  free of charge.

I pay a membership fee to shop there, and highly value the employees level of efficiency and customer service when I check out.  I DO NOT WORK FOR COSTCO, and do not agree that to save 5 minutes, I should be doing their work.

I have never minded paying a fee to a company that supports community growth through gainful employment, but now, this has changed. So many jobs lost in so many communities as customers do the work free of charge.

Please help me to stop allowing Costco to drive up profits on the back of customers and by reducing employment in our community !!
