We are residents of this great state of Colorado, and we believe in the principles of democracy and the peaceful transition of power that has continued, uninterrupted, since our country’s founding. 

As our Senator elected to uphold the processes and institutions upon which our democracy depends, we are writing to ask that you make an explicit, unambiguous statement in defense of our Constitutional right to free and fair elections, and that you commit to upholding the results of our election regardless of whether those results ultimately serve or undermine the power of your party.

When you were sworn in as Senator, you took an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same.” There is no wiggle room in this oath.  You either support and defend the Constitution or you do not. 

We therefore ask that you declare, publicly and clearly, your love for this country and your fidelity to its most fundamental principles by signing the following statement:

“I, Senator Cory Gardner, unambiguously pledge to uphold the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election — regardless of whichever party emerges victorious — and commit to the peaceful transition of power in the name of this country we hold so dear and of the future of democracy itself.”
