Increase Middle Eastern Representation in Forms and Surveys

From a young age we are taught to embrace our identity, however Middle Eastern Americans cannot help but feel a disconnect from their heritage.
Through most drop downs, the user will come across White, Asian, Pacific Islander, Black, Native American or Hispanic. Middle Eastern Americans like myself are forced to pause before answering White with a sigh.
There is a sense of humiliation and shame after every survey. Not because we have to identify as white, but because we can’t identify as Middle Eastern. Citizens can’t help but feel underrepresented in a society where celebrating your culture is welcomed.
The Census uses race and ethnicity data in the process of policy making. By implementing a Middle Eastern option, it would further allow Middle Eastern’s to also be politically represented while also reminding them of their heritage.
Through signing this petition, you will be enabling the representation of Middle Eastern communities in the United States. Thank you!
