Good evening,

I am writing this as a parent of two from South Harrison Elementary in Mullica Hill, NJ. My daughter is 9 years old and in third grade and my son is 4 and in preschool. Since being at South Harrison there has been 4 occasions that my daughter has been forgotten about on the bus by the same bus driver all 4 years.

Every time this has occurred it has been frightening, but it was this last time that is pushing to not stop until something is changed going forward. On October 3, 2018 for the fourth time, the same bus driver that has been driving my daughter for all four years completely passed her bus stop. Every day my mother thankfully gets my children off the bus for me. She had called me and asked me if I had received a call that the bus would be late. I stated no and she then proceeded to go up to the school when she noticed my daughter's bus on the other side of the road. See I live on State Highway 45 and it is an extremely busy road with tractor trailers and cars traveling at distances way faster than the speed limit. On top of that my driveway is a complete blind spot and if someone wasn't paying attention they wouldn't see a car stopped until too late. At this time my mom notices the driver having my then 8 year old daughter get off the bus on the opposite side of this road and telling her to cross the road by HERSELF as my mom is yelling telling her to not let her cross. Thankfully my daughter was not killed or injured like those other children several weeks after my incident occurred.

I contacted the coordinator and director of the transportation department. The coordinator stated the BOE policy clearly stated my road is a SAME SIDE PICK UP AND DROP OFF and the driver should have turned around and dropped her off on my side of the road. She stated she contacted the contractor and told the driver not to do that again. When that wasn't enough for me being this is the 4th time the driver has forgotten her. I contacted the director. At that time, the director proceeded to laugh and me and state haven't I ever heard of a mistake. I responded with, if my daughter died today, would you have said the same thing? I also said one time is a mistake, four times there is a problem.

I have been to Board of Education meetings where the superintendent, now Gloucester County Freeholder and his business administrator called me a liar and that their director would never do or say those things. Stating that kids are allowed to cross a highway when getting off the bus. When I contacted the State regarding this, they stated every board of education makes their routes and rules. I have in writing from the coordinator stating my road was same side pick up drop off. They continued to bully me via email until I would meet with them face to face. I denied meeting with them unless they agreed to have it recorded or have a police officer in presence since they would claim I was a liar like they did prior.

We need to change the bus laws in New Jersey and they need to change now before more kids are hurt or killed. In most companies you are held liable when you do something you aren't supposed to. These bus drivers, bus companies and Board of Education members are getting away with too much just to pinch pennies in their budgets so their salaries are higher. This bus driver should have been suspended and then eventually let go after so many incidents instead of consistent slaps on the wrists. I will not back down to this Board of Education until there is a change. A change for all kids of New Jersey. Since October I will not allow my daughter on the bus and she is unable to go on any field trips due to the same reason because I can not trust that this school and Board of Education have her or any other child's safety as their concern.

Today, January 7, 2019, in our town a bus collided with a tanker. The tanker had the right away. When will this stop? How many kids will have to die or be hurt? Please help me get new bus laws and regulations in affect so we can help prevent careless accidents in the future.
