End Dermal Descrimination

Current Departmental Policy of South Australian correctional facilities prohibits visitors wearing any jewellery other than a wedding ring or recognised religious symbol. The current policy descriminates against individuals whom have dermal piercings that are not ‘removable.’
Visitation rights are being violated under this policy with no consideration given, even under direct written request from an individual.
If the policy provides an exemption for items that are physically removable yet are seen as not removable out of respect of belief, I believe it is unsatisfactory that the policy does not allow perminant jewellery to be exempt.
Access to the support of a family member, friend or even a professional through visitation should not be determined by the choice of personal appearance or expression of a perminant nature.
Let’s update the policies to ensure that descrimination does not impede on visitation rights in the future!
