Introduce Speed bumps on Kernick Road from Penryn college to the train station

Kernick Road has hundreds of children walking to and from school every day. The speed limit on this road is 30mph, but living on this road myself, I see people driving at speeds well in excess of this!

Every day I witness children walking on the road and not the pavement, running down the road instead of on the busy pavement so as they don’t miss their train. God forbid one or more of these children get hit by a car doing these excessive speeds! I fear it is a case of ‘when’ not ‘if’

There are two main problem areas on this stretch of road -

1, there is a slight hill where pedestrians and home owners can not see cars coming over the brow until very late and vice Versa. There is no pavement for one side of the road with houses.

2. The traffic lights before the blue Bridge!! People drive over the brow of the hill, see that the traffic lights are about to turn red so actually speed up, sometimes to a ridiculous speed, to beat the lights!

This road is also a residential road with many children living along it.

I’ve heard that two people have been hit on this road in the past, maybe more and numerous household pets have been killed. I’ve witnessed people having their arms clipped by wing mirrors of speeding cars and a lady with a baby having to literally drag her buggy back on to the pavement when attempting to cross because she didn’t see a speeding car coming in time!

This stretch of road is a fatality waiting to happen, probably a youngster! I prey it doesn’t!

Another concerned resident contacted highways in the past with regard to dropping the speed limit and improvement pavements, but their response was they will not reduce the speed limit on this road as it is not within their budget to do so!

please sign this petition to help get a lower speed limit for this area of Kernick road, with speed bumps to stop people speeding up to beat the lights.

Thank you so much
