Save the Newquay Land Train Stop on Bank Street
The owners of Newquay's famous Land Train say they've been told they can no longer stop to pick up passengers in Bank Street after this year.
Radio Newquay understands there is concern locally that the spaces, currently used by the train, should be available for short term parking in the town centre. This follows concerns raised over recent months about the pressure on street parking in Newquay.
Mark Haddrell co-owner of the train, which has operated for 25 years, says they have been offered a spot in The Crescent but it isn't suitable.
He said: "It's completely out of the way. We would have had to discharge people onto the road, that's on a slope, which would make it very difficult to get prams and wheelchairs and whatever into the back of the train with our disabled lift."
He says their insurance company will not cover the proposed location.
Cornwall Councillor for the area,, says the authority is committed to finding an appropriate route or solution.
We need to save the Bank Street Stop, it has been there for years!! It will only generate 5 more parking spaces and, surely we should be discouraging cars coming through that part of town as much as possible. The Land Train is part of Newquay’s character, everyone gets annoyed bring stuck behind it in the summer, but no one wants to see it disappear off the high street. It’s a lovely way for residents and visitors to learn a bit of history and see our beautiful town and the Bank Street stop makes it more accessible for many. It shouldn’t be moved to a more dangerous/awkward place so 2 cars can park on the high street.

“So my family and I went on the “Land Train” for the first time today and it was good fun. We live in Newquay, but we found the information they provided was informative and it was a very relaxing journey. Newquay is the most beautiful place in the world and it was a pleasure to see it in at different angles . Thank you for having us and it would be very sad if the council didn’t arrange for another stop in the town for the train. It’s definitely worth a go if your new to the area or a visitor. ❤️❤️“
