Safety for our children. Expected to walk an hour on a dangerous route to get to school.

Our local school bus service provides transport for our children. When they reach 8 years old they are expected to walk to school which is just less than 3 miles. The route was 'assessed' by Cornwall council and deemed safe. The routes are in no way safe for anyone to walk let alone children. They are narrow (one car width), winding, have steep hills, no footpaths or street lights. There are only a few houses along the route. These lanes are the main routes used by heavy farm vehicles between fields. So the lanes are also very muddy, and slippery. It will take an hour to walk to school and an hour to walk back. For children that is 2 hours walking on difficult terraign and for parents that's 4 hours just walking to and from school. The speed limit is 60, although it's difficult to reach this speed with so many dangers, many cars do between 30 and 40 mph. The school bus still takes children under 8 to and from school with a half empty bus. Children over 8 can go on the bus but need to pay around £100 per term per pupil. Parents rely on school transport and many can't afford to pay that.
Our argument is that the route the council has said is safe for children to walk, isnt. It is our nearest primary school.
100% of local residents say it's not safe to walk. Police, highways and local MPs say it's not safe. But Cornwall council will not listen to anyone.
We need them to change their decision.
