Brian Lo, a Cornell University senior, died tragically in a house fire near Cornell's campus on the last day of classes in the spring semester of 2011. He had a full-time job lined up and was set to graduate just three weeks later. A link to an article about his tragic and untimely passing: http://cornellsun.com/node/47283
Clearly, as a result of his death, he will never have an opportunity to work and pay off his student loans, the balance of which exceeds $20,000. However, Cornell University will not forgive this debt and therefore his parents must continue to pay thousands of dollars towards his loans, despite the tragic fact that Brian and his family will never receive a return on this educational investment.
