ONE UNIFIED High School.

ONE UNIFIED High School.
This was created by the Oroville community.
OUR kids are behind, OUR teachers are weary, OUR teachers are leaving, OUR great local families are moving away, OUR young athletes are commuting and playing for other schools and competing against US, OUR athletic teams are outnumbered, OUR community needs life, energy and a reason to come together, WE WANT SUCCESS! WE WANT TO WIN!
Please read.
This petition is about combining our OUHSD district resources to support one new unified high school in Oroville, to give all students equal opportunities for education, athletic experience, and future success. Currently, all our resources are stretched thin, limited and divided. As a new incoming high school student, the decision to which school you will attend is not equal nor simple. Both high schools in Oroville offer different opportunities for AP classes, Agriculture, Automotive, Athletics, and more.

Four+ years ago this petition was dismissed by the local community. Why was it dismissed? Some people are more passionate and concerned about colors, mascots, and metal hardware mounted to wood (Bell). They are holding onto past memories (we understand), and believe it is the same today, as it was 10, 20 even 100 years ago. They are more passionate about those things and lack the understanding to see what the alternative would provide. Provide to our individual students, athletics, student organizations, community members, faculty, and Oroville. More success is best. Please read.
Since the dismissal, we have endured the Dam breaking, paradise fire, camp fire, bear fire and more fires, covid and now we are under pressure and watch of the Department of Justice (DOJ). This has created a new challenge for all teachers, and for the district and both high schools. It is also impacting our campus culture and making it harder to focus on the positive rather than the negative. Our community today is dramatically different from 4 years ago. We all know of at least 2 families that have left our town for “better opportunities.” Both schools today would have been better off if we would of combined the two schools 4 years ago. Times are changing fast, the community, students, and both schools have entirely changed. Some of us are still clinging on to our past experiences and visions of glory and believe that same spirit & passion exists at our high schools today. It is not the same. The schools are different, times are different, the students are different, parents are different, even the faculty is different. Loyalty is not the same. That indifference and evolution is killing the school's spirit and destroying the old foundation. The solution is simple, we rebuild. Rebuild the brand, school spirit, our commitments to the students, the teachers, and Oroville. REBUILD THE PRIDE.
StrongerTogether.
Today WE are dividing the district, WE divide the limited resources, WE divide Harrison stadium, WE divide the community stakeholders, WE divide donated booster funds, WE divide the local pride, everything that is incoming has to be equally shared with both schools. Much like a struggling parent giving both of their children a fair sum. The incoming is not enough to rebuild both schools to be great. It is only enough to keep them on life support. Not to mention WE are a divided town of people, that needs to be UNITED. Think of our neighboring communities of Oroville and how one GREAT school flourishes and their local pride that is united behind one team, one school one purpose. WE ALL WAMT THAT TOO!
FACT. Combined we would be as large as our neighboring competitor Pleasant Valley High School. Approx 2,000 students. We finally could compete with all teams in Redding, Yuba city & Chico. That is where Oroville belongs that is our history.
FACT. Today and for years now we have combined our OHS & LPHS bands. They have an amazing thriving culture, that has been promoted and respected statewide. Did you know that they are one of the most successful high school bands in the entire state of California? Annually they compete statewide and represent Oroville and WIN. They are called the Oroville and Las Plumas High School band...?? Let's give them a real name. Let's share that success and culture with all our sports programs, student organizations, and community. They have shown us that it will work! Bring back the pride, let’s WIN, let’s GROW, let’s WORK, let’s be FRIENDS, let’s promote CHANGE, let’s REPRESENT the BIG O TOGETHER!
StrongerTogether.
VISION. It's not about the old school colors, the old traditions (Bell Game), or mascots. We will still honor those things in a different way, even at the new school. Remembering our history is important and it won't be forgotten. Think about the future. We will create NEW and exciting traditions that our community will support and love. It will promote NEW throughout our community. We could use some NEW around here. Can you just imagine how exciting it will be to go to a new football game at Harrison Stadium, with your team's new name, new colors, all over the stadium printed on the grass? A new name, hat, color, letterman's jacket, and slogan. The dedicated fans of today and the older fans of the past will all come and fill the bleachers. If we build it, they will come.
VISION. Together we can do more, even creating new SPORTS programs such as field hockey, rodeo, mountain biking, rugby. New student CLUB organizations such as; Film Club, Future Medical Professional Club, Photography Club, Entrepreneur Club, Investing 101 Club, Pottery Club, Video Game Club. We can create more with more resources.
***Sign this petition/join us. Donations are not necessary. We need your support. This will be a great thing for our community. Do not fear or worry about the colors, mascots, or traditions. We will create a new name and mascot that represents our community of Oroville. This is a process and will not be an overnight change.
