Petition for the removal of the Head of the Public Affairs Council for the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Sydney and Affiliated regions, Wagieh (John) Nour.
Mr Wagieh (John) Nour has made countless public representations resulting in harm to the Coptic community. The latest and most demoralising incident was during the first historic visit by The Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Malcom Turnbull MP to our Coptic Church - to stand in solidarity with our persecuted brothers and sisters. Mr Nour found it appropriate to respond to this visit by presenting the Prime Minister with a pink Trump tie, making a mockery of Mr Turnbull and degrading our identity, disrespecting the martyrs commemorated by our church and distracting the focus from our current Coptic plight. News of this embarrassment has already reached international media outlets both secular and religious.

Regardless of the Diocese’s statement saying that Mr Nour did not represent the Diocese that day, his actions did unmistakably represent the Coptic community in the presence of His Grace Bishop Daniel and His Grace Bishop Paula of Tanta. Mr Nour also holds a documented and appointed position on the Public Affairs Council of the Diocese – a link to the document can be found here:
It is noteworthy to mention that Mr Nour holds no qualification or professional experience in media or public relations, evident by the aforementioned actions.
We call for the removal of Mr Wagieh (John) Nour from this position to prevent further worsening of the irreparable damage he has caused.
