Copiah Academy Uniforms

In response to the new Uniform Policy placed in effect at Copiah Academy beginning with the 2017-18 school year, we, the following parents and membership owners (Patrons) respectfully ask re-consideration of this matter.

Since its inception, Copiah Academy has held itself to a higher standard of learning for its students.  The focus was placed on excellence in college prep academics, arts and athletics.  The school was built by families who wanted a better education for their children than what was then available.

The vast majority of those first enrolled students are now themselves either parents of children at CA or serving as faculty - or both.  Copiah Academy has always survived due to the hard work and diligence of those Patrons.  The Patrons are families who are not wealthy and make a lot of sacrifices to see that their children get a quality education.

With that said, the proposed uniform policy created by the board for the 2017-2018 school year needs to be re-visited and reconsidered.  With the ever increasing dues and fees necessary for school operation, asking those same Patrons to spend even more of their hard earned money on uniforms of this specificity is asking too much.

Therefore, we the undersigned, respectfully submit the following:

The issue of mandated uniforms should be brought before the Patrons for discussion.  If there is a majority vote of the Patrons to move forward with uniforms, a committee of volunteers should be formed to look at every possible scenario - form, fit, function and financial - so that all children and families' situations are taken into consideration.  There can not be a "one size fits all" approach to this kind of change.

As it is nearing the end of the 2016-2017 school year and registration fees for the 2017-2018 year have already been secured, we ask that any major change in the dress code/uniform policy be implemented in the 2018-2019 school year.  That would give all families a fair amount of time to be educated on the changes and make necessary preparation for any such change.

Respectfully submitted,

The Patrons of Copiah Academy
