Contra Costa County is considering a set of design concepts for bicycle and pedestrian improvements on Treat Blvd from N. Main St to Jones Rd. This includes the freeway overpass and the blocks right in front of Pleasant Hill BART.
Unfortunately, the concept which the County currently favors puts bicyclists and pedestrians on a path together all the way from N. Main St to the station, going in both directions. This is inconvenient for bicyclists and dangerous for pedestrians. Worse, this concept offers no safety improvements at all from Oak Rd to Jones Rd.
People who walk need a continuous sidewalk, and people who bicycle need a continuous bikeway, just as people who drive need a continuous motor lane.
Please sign to urge the County to choose a concept which makes walking and bicycling to the station safe and comfortable for everyone, by separating pedestrians and bicyclists in both directions along the entire street segment both from each other and from motor traffic.
