Why this petition matters

Started by Christina M

Contra Costa Health Services approved the reopening of schools for in person teaching starting October 13th 2020. SRVUSD and Superintendent Dr Malloy want our students to start in person school only on January 5th 2021, (3 months later). Our children have been stuck inside our homes since March 2020. They lack social interaction with their peers, intellectual stimulation for learning, classroom competitive environment and physical exercise. It is reinforced by the pediatricians all over the world that the children should go back to in person leaning as soon as possible. The students themselves complain about the online learning as being inefficient and boring. They keep asking to go back to regular school classes.

Despite all this, SRVUSD is not capable of opening the schools. Since June 2020 they had time to plan and organize the reopening in different scenarios. They had support from the governor, support from the community and still they are incompetent enough to not be able to make it happen. Private schools in Contra Costa will reopen on October 13th 2020. How and why they can do it and SRVUSD cannot, it is a question that Dr. Malloy should answer to. For $340K a salary, he should be kept accountable for his failure to organize and keep up with the rest of the California and the country.
