Contra Costa County residents, small business owners, restaurant owners and their employees are suffering unnecessary financial losses due to the continued forced closures and Shelter in Place order.  The science no longer supports this order. In the past week the CDC has released information stating that the coronavirus is not spread easily on solid surfaces as previously thought.

Last week, the Danville Town Council hosted Contra Costa County Deputy Health Officer Dr. Ori Tzvieli to answer questions related to reopening criteria. Dr. Tzvieli updated the council on his department’s progress on the five indicators chosen to guide the reopening process. He said the county is still achieving two of the indicators, hospitalizations, and hospital capacity. Although the other three indicators, testing, PPE supply and contact tracing have not been accomplished, Dr. Tzvieli showed confidence in the county’s progress. “I’m pretty sure we’ll get there on the testing, PPE and even on the contact tracing,” he said.

Of the 5 indicators chosen to determine reopening businesses, schools, outdoor activity, sports, we, the people, have done our part by sheltering in place for almost 3 months.  This allowed for 2 of the 5 indicators (hospitalizations and hospital capacity) to be manageable.  The remaining indicators are the state governments responsibility and with no timeline to achieve this we demand not to be penalized any longer by being forced closed, or restricted in our activities.

We want Contra Costa Open Now, Mrs. Andersen.  John Muir Hospital has seen more deaths by suicide than COVID-19 and report a years worth of suicide attempts in the last month.  The mental suffering is causing irreparable damage on top of the financial fallout for all small businesses.  Deem every business essential, refute the need for the last 3 indicators to be met before opening.  These are our residents, your constituents and they need your help. Stand up for us!
