The aim of this petition is to restore walking math at Skinner West.

Dr. Bush recently cancelled walking math at Skinner West without any prior communication. This means differentiated instruction for math no longer exists for the neighborhood program and those kids who were one grade level ahead have to repeat the exact same math curriculum this year. It is a complete repeat down to the same textbook and worksheets from last year for these students. As a result, apart from the obvious loss of opportunity to advance by learning new material for one school year, these students will not be challenged enough and may lose interest in math. Their learning will be gravely impacted. 

It is worth noting that Dr. Bush agreed to continue walking math during her interview for the position last spring. Now upon being inquired by concerned parents into her seemingly sudden change of mind (due to a lack of communication), Dr. Bush has failed to provide reasonable explanation. Simply put, there has been no staff change this year and walking math persisted during COVID. This year, indeed, it will be less difficult to have walking math as we do not have the same COVID restrictions as before. However, according to Dr. Bush, instead of walking math for more advanced students, every child will receive tailored instructions that will meet their individual learning needs. Clearly this is logistically impossible with one teacher in a class with 27 students--and so far, there has been no differentiated teaching.
