Why this petition matters

Started by Bcur 4 2022

A recent statement released by the Vice-Chancellor on the 15/07/2022 called for a return of contact learning for outgoing students, however it was stated that students should have an input in regard to this, and that no student should be disadvantaged if the decision to return to contact learning is undertaken.

As final year students with only ±7 weeks of theory left, changing to contact learning would create unnecessary issues that we cannot afford to deal with at the moment. We are under immense pressure to meet both academic and practical deadlines, as in order to qualify for community service we have to complete a set number of working hours, of which we are still behind due to the consequences of covid 19 that affected the most part of our second year.

Students were recently sent an email buy a single lecturer demanding they return to class.

No discussions nor attempts to discuss the issue of returning to contact classes were made with the students.

What we request is that online learning continue, as ultimately it affects us students.

Everything is set for online learning and it has worked well, so to change back to contact classes when we only have a short amount of time remaining for our course does not make logical sence.

By signing this petition, we students show we are standing together against the disregard of rights of students to have an input on our preffered learning methods.

We request a formal opportunity to sit down to a meeting with all involved, so that fair compromises can be made in striving to continue with online learning.
