The Austin City Council will vote this week to determine the amount of funding that will be on the ballot in the November election for Open Space, Parks and Trails. Now, today! – is the strategic moment to Take Action and Voice Your Support for Full Funding for Open Space, Parks and Trails.
Dear Mayor Leffingwell and City Council Members,
One of the best things about Austin is its balance of urban life and the great outdoors. There are few things better than an evening in Zilker Park or a swim in Barton Springs Pool. Austin’s green spaces and flowing springs are its lifeblood – often called the Soul of The City!
Allocating at least $30 million for open space initiatives on the November bond ballot will ensure that the City can continue to protect Austin’s most critically important watersheds, which are a key part of the fabric of Austin’s famous quality of life.
Allocating $2 million to the Violet Crown Trail will create a regional trail system that will promote the use and enjoyment of open space, and add a new dimension to the overall quality of life in the Central Texas. The Violet Crown Trail system will create connectivity to neighborhoods, retail centers, parks and libraries, and provide healthy, safe, family-friendly alternative means of transportation that will help reduce traffic congestion.
In order to safeguard our region’s water and conserve the natural beauty of Austin and the Hill Country, I urge you to vote to fund Open Space and The Violet Crown Trail.
