Why this petition matters

Started by Haydn S

Many Australians are unaware of the hidden fats and oils in supermarket products and may be contributing to environmental destruction and deforestation as well as putting the health of their families at risk. Palm oil is found in around 50 per cent of packaged foods at the supermarket but is mostly hidden under the guise of vegetable oil. Every time you use a Product containing palm oil you are contributing to taking away Orangutans habitats. Palm oil itself is not bad but the unsustainable way that it's produced is destroying rainforest habitats in countries such as Indonesia. Mandatory palm oil labelling will put pressure on companies to start using sustainably produced palm oil. By having mandatory labelling of palm oil on products this will put the power back into the hands of consumers who will have the choice to buy products containing certified sustainable palm oil or not. Want to help save Orangutans’ habitats? Then sign this petition and start labelling palm oil.
