US Algerian Task Force started this petition to Consul General Sabria Boukadoum Consulate General of Algeria

The Algerian community in the United States joins the people of Algeria in protesting the candidacy of ailing president Abdelaziz Bouteflika for a fifth term. The 82-year-old leader has been the president of Algeria since 1999, and since he suffered a stroke in 2013, Bouteflika has been rarely seen in public.

The people of Algeria have been peacefully protesting against Bouteflika's candidacy since Feb. 22, asking him to retire and not to run for another term. The Algerian people demand a free and democratic election process that renders a new leader and a government that works collectively to eliminate corruption and to improve socioeconomic conditions.

We call on the Algerian government to respect the demand of the people and to protect the peaceful protesters from any harm. While Algeria's stability is essential, we call on all people and institutions to avoid unnecessary confrontations. Algeria has suffered enough. It is time we work together for freedom, prosperity and justice.

We need 10,000 signatures by Friday, March 15 to present to the Consulate General of Algeria. Please sign and share.
