Why this petition matters

Started by Naomi Channing

The removal of trees along the A449 - Priory Way/Gardens in Langstone has created an increase in both noise and air pollution.  The Welsh Government have previously undertaking a Soundscape 'Noise Survey' which adds weight to this argument as the level before tree removal was 73db which is high enough for the erection of acoustic fencing.  This type of fencing has been erected along the M4 corridor, the SDR road and even the A48 in Langstone.  The A449 is a very busy road and yet has been overlooked by Welsh Government who, despite the requests of the local residents, do not deem it necessary.

The noise and air pollution is not only the problem of the houses which immediately back onto the A449 but also others on the Priory estate who have noted an increase in noise/air pollution since December 2021.

This petition is for the installation of acoustic fencing along the edge of the A449 where the houses are affected.  Also for the planting of non deciduous trees to replace the ones which have been cut back.  There is a plan for the replacement of the trees but this is not planned to be actioned in the near future.

The local Councillors have been very keen in supporting this action but are also unable to progress further.

We are looking to show that this is affecting many residents.  It should be noted that the length of fencing required would only be 200m.  If the estate had been built 3-4 years later this would have been a prerequisite, and unfortunately has become a problem due to the removal of the line of trees between the houses and the A449.
