So much has been taken from our kids this year!   A season of wrestling is so important for the mental health and well-being of kids who participate in this sport.   For seniors especially, cancellation of the season would be a devastating blow.

In signing this petition, we are asking that the Massachusetts EEA reconsider their guidance and allow wrestlers to compete this year.

The NFHS has released guidance for the modified and safe return to wrestling which is being followed safely in many other states.   MIAA shared this guidance earlier this fall.  We would like Massachusetts EEA to consider and follow this guidance.

Despite close contact, wrestling is safer than other sports which have been permitted to proceed.   Wrestlers are exposed to only a single person in competition and only for a very limited period of time.   From a numbers standpoint, it is far less likely there would be spread from Wrestling than from other sports.

Massachusetts has seen spread in other sports such as hockey.   Instead of prohibiting competition, the Commonwealth employed a temporary shut down of rinks with a fairly rapid return to play.   We are only asking for the same consideration for our children!   They are not being treated fairly in this regard - a trial should at least be considered.     Contact tracing would be easy with wrestling, it should not be very complicated to monitor how safely they proceed.

Other states have been permitting wrestling, and we have heard of no incidents of spread.    Currently many nearby states have plans to allow return to competition for wrestlers this winter.   Please allow the same for the youth of Massachusetts.   It's bad enough that they are spending most of their days in isolation in front of computer screens, don't take this from them too.    The Commonwealth must start considering their mental health needs as well!
