Say NO to Sisson Mine

WE have to fight to ensure our watersheds are protect from toxic mining waste. The increasing rate of tailings dam failures is directly related to the increasing number of larger tailings dams. Mining companies, like Northcliff Resources and Todd Minerals, dump tailings, the waste left over after ore has been mined and processed, into dams for PERMANENT storage because it is cheaper than other methods that are considered less risky to the environment, like the dry stack method.
The Sisson Mine, owned by Northcliff Resources and Todd Minerals, is located 30 km from Stanley and 60 kmnorthwest from Fredericton, with a tailing dam estimated to be 87 m in height as its deepest point and 8 km in length. In comparison, the Mactaquac dam is 40 to 50 m in height and 0.5 km long.
Tailings waste from a breached dam could reach Stanley in 17 minutes and Fredericton in 3 days, forever compromising the Nashwaak and our precision ground water aquifers. Say NO to Sisson Mine and potential Water contamination.
