Connie Jordan of Quest Academy Las Vegas: RESIGN
SCANDAL AT QUEST ACADEMY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Parents Request Justice For Education and Demand Answers to Allegations of Embezzlement, Extortion, Kick-Backs, Fraud, Etc. Against Principal of Quest Preparatory Academy in North Las Vegas
Las Vegas, Nevada - November 1, 2012 - State authorities are now investigating multiple allegations of misappropriation of taxpayer funds and other serious financial misconduct by Connie Jordan, the principal of “Quest Academy”, a local charter school in Centennial Hills founded in 2007, with a secondary high school component currently operating out of the YMCA on Meadows Lane.
After an explosive school board meeting on October 22, 2012, at which letters of resignation of long-time employees were read, including by a female employee who was forced to “kick-back” $1,000 per month of her salary to Jordan just so she could keep her job, parents berating the board and Jordan concerning a variety of issues, and other staff and another administrator actually taking a bold public stand against Jordan and her alleged misconduct - thus far, no official action has been taken.
It was reported that when the allegations surfaced, they were based upon whistle-blower employees in the school who had noticed, and then began documenting what appeared to be outrageous financial improprieties involving Jordan. The matter appears to be made even more complicated in that there are plans under way to construct a new school for next year at a cost range of $13+ Million.
The assistant principal, and one of the most vocal opponents of the alleged criminal activity involving taxpayer funds, has been placed on administrative leave by the Board as of October 30, while the embattled school board, curiously failed to take any official action against Jordan whatsoever when the allegations against Jordan surfaced on October 22, 2012. It has been reported that Jordan stayed late into the night after the October 22 meeting in her office where the financial records are, and is attempting to enlist teachers as allies. At the October 22 meeting, instead of taking action against Jordan, the board attempted to remove from the board the only member (in his absence), ironically, the treasurer, Marc Abelman, who was questioning the allegations of financial improprieties involving public funds. This attempted action at his removal failed, but bylaws have allegedly been re-written restricting control of the funds to the chair of the board, and oddly, under these circumstances, Jordan herself.
In addition to potential criminal prosecutions, which could involve conspiracy if the members of the Board are found to be acting in concert with Jordan’s alleged criminal activities, the State of Nevada Public Charter School Authority could revoke the school’s charter, leaving a large number of students without a school for a period of time until alternate arrangements could be made. Parents are demanding justice for their children and are frustrated by the improper actions of the Governing Board
ON OCTOBER 22, 2012 AT A PUBLIC MEETING AT THE QUEST ACADEMY CAMPUS 1 OF 4 BOARD MEMBERS WHO WOULD NOT ACCEPT BRIBES AND WHO ALSO REPORTED THE SCHOOL TO THE STATE FOR AN AUDIT WAS THREATEN TO GET VOTED OFF THE BOARD.THE OTHER BOARD MEMBERS TRIED THAT NIGHT BUT THE PARENTS VOTED AGAINST IT!
THE AUDIT CAME AND IT SHOWED THAT BOARD MEMBERS AND THE PRINCIPAL HAD BEEN EXTORTING MONEY FROM SOME STAFF, AND EMBEZZLED SCHOOL FUNDS.
THE SCHOOLED FAILED TO GIVE TEACHER RAISES LAST YEAR, MOST TEACHERS AT THE SCHOOL ARE COLLECTING FOOD STAMPS BECAUSE THEY CANNOT AFFORD A BILLS WITH THEIR SALARY.
THE PRINCIPAL HAD ALLEGEDLY PAID HERSELF 5 THOUSAND DOLLAR CHECKS EVERY OTHER MONTH, SPENDING SCHOOL MONEY ON PRIVATE GIFTS AND ALCOHOL ON TOP OF HER 100 THOUSAND SALARY. THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL QUIT THAT NIGHT ALONG WITH 2 OTHER STAFF AS THE THEY WERE BEING THREATENED BY THE PRINCIPAL. PARENTS WERE UPSET TO FIND OUT THE THE LOTTERY IS FIXED. ALSO THERE IS EVIDENCE IN THE AUDIT TO SUPPORT THESE FINDINGS. QUEST ACADEMY HAD LAWYERS PRESENT WARNING THE STAFF THAT THEY HAD TO KEEP SILENT AND NOT TALK ABOUT THE ALLEGATIONS TO THE PUBLIC. THE PRINCIPAL IS CURRENTLY BEING SUED BY A PARENT WHO THREATEN A STUDENT WHO IS A SPECIAL ED STUDENT TO KEEP HIM AGAINST HIS WILL IN A ROOM BY HIMSELF ALL DAY, WHICH VIOLATES FEDERAL LAWS OF THE IDEA ACT WHICH GOES AGAINST THE RULES KNOWN AS LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT.. SOME OF THE TEACHERS ARE TOLD TO NOT TALK TO PARENTS ABOUT THE MEETING WHEN IT WAS A PUBLIC MEETING THEY ARE BEING THREATEN TO GET FIRED. I KNOW THERE IS MORE TO THIS STORY, AS THIS IS AS MUCH AS I KNOW FOR NOW. THE NEWS MEDIA WOULD NOT HELP OR PUBLISH THE STORY SO WE WILL SEEK JUSTICE OURSELVES FOR THE SAFETY OF THE FACULTY AND STUDENTS. STUDENTS AND STAFF MEMBERS HAVE REPORTED TO BEING INTERROGATED BY THE PRINCIPAL.
