Bring equitable pay to online teachers
Bring equitable pay to online teachers
Online teachers who work for organizations such as Connections Academy and Stride (K12) are often paid a fraction of what brick and mortar teachers are paid in the same geographical location. In a time when online student enrollment is climbing, with some of these schools being called mega schools, it is time for this to be re evaluated.
No longer should the pay rates be inequitable for the "privilege" of working from home. Online teachers spend just as much time and energy in preparing and delivering their classes as brick and mortar teachers do. With the additional barricade of students and parents being able to simply ignore the calls to offer assistance because with very little effort they can go without being seen.
These online teachers have dedicated themselves to reaching students from all situations in life. Often working with students who came to an online school as a respite from being bullied. Others are teen parents who would have had to drop out due to having to support a child. Many are transient or homeless.
I am not asking that these teachers even be paid what they are worth, as no teachers are really, I am only asking these companies to bring fair and equitable pay and stop hiding behind the "privilege" of working from home.
