My cousin was an addict and I feel I can do little more by helping other families whose child has not lost their battle to this disease yet. My cousin Jenna an all-American girl who played soccer when she was little who loved her family and whose world was her daughter became addicted to heroine at young age. She became clean when she was having a baby and stayed clean. She relapsed one time but that's all it took. We aren't sure how it all started but we know how it ended. So We were forced to stand idly by as my smart beautiful cousin turns into someone that we know isn't her but was the disease. Jenna was so happy when she had her baby and was doing so well. I want to prevent this from happening again. Over the U.S heroine use in women has gone up 100% and 114% in women between the age of 18-25 years. The death from an overdose 286%. Are we ok with these numbers ? I know the week my cousin passed I known four families personally who have lost someone because of those disease. There was nothing they could do to help them.Jenna's Law would give families the power to help their child or family member over age 18 live. There is a Law like this which already exists in Kentucky and Ohio, allows the loved ones of an addict to help petition the court to mandate treatment. Instead of feeling helpless, the parent, relative, or friend can take action, and help an addict get control of his life. That Law has been proven to keep families together and serve as an invaluable tool for families to intervene on the substance abuse disorder of a loved one regardless of age and without criminal charges. I am asking the Connecticut Senate and House to help save thousands of families by passing Jenna's Law in Connecticut . My name is Kimberly Davidson, and This law is prudent, and humane, and loved ones of addicts across the country are raising their voices to get it passed. Alabama, California, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and Washington are all currently trying to enact versions of This Law. I am a petrified relative trying to save others of this disease that has taken my cousins life and left her baby with out a mom. But I am also speaking out for the many parents and relatives of addicts who are unable to speak for themselves. Please join me in asking the Connecticut Congress and Senate to pass Casey’s Law and help keep families intact. I just want to change the name for our state to Jenna's law in memory of my cousin.
