The proposed budget of Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy would consolidate all of Connecticut's legislative commissions into a single entity and significantly reduce funding for each commission. The Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission represents individuals from over 21 different countries of origins who speak over 35 different languages. If the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission is merged with other state commissions in Connecticut, the diverse and unique needs of Connecticut's Asian communities will be pushed to the background. Asian Pacific Americans are the fastest growing racial group in the country and deserve to be recognized as a community deserving of distinct representation. If the Asian Pacific American Affairs Commission is combined with other state commissions it will become impossible to appropriately advocate for the diverse Asian Pacific American population in Connecticut.
