Patients work with their doctors every day to make the best decisions about treating their medical conditions. This year, the proposed budget for the state of Connecticut would give the state government control over some of those decisions through a step therapy program. Patients would need to FAIL on a state-determined medicine before they could take the medicine prescribed by their doctor. This is bad for patients and bad for health care in Connecticut.
HB6545 would improve this provision by:
Protecting patients currently taking medicines that are working
Giving doctors clear instructions on how to override the state restrictions when medically necessary
Limiting the amount of time (7 days) and instances (1) a patient has to fail on a state-approved medicine before getting the doctor-approved medicine
Exempting medicines for mental health conditions
Please support the patient protections in HB 6545 and help improve what could be a disastrous situation for Connecticut's patients!
