Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez: Champion Immigration Reform that Begins with the Expansion of DACA

We call on Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez to champion humane immigration reform that begins with the immediate expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to all undocumented people in this country.

Despite the promises of relief through immigration reform, it is estimated that approximately 4 million people will be unable to benefit from the pathway to citizenship in the Senate bill. Without relief and with the bill’s focus on interior and unprecedented border enforcement we will be seeing an even more unprecedented deportation program should this bill be sent to the president as written.

For this reason we call on Ms. Sanchez to do the following:

1.Call on President Obama to immediately expand the  Deferred Action program to all undocumented people, including those that are low priority under prosecutorial discretion that are currently in detention and those that have already been deported.

2.Take a public stance in support of ending all continued expansion of interior enforcement which makes communities less safe and leads to racial profiling. This includes committing to voting against the proposed SAFE Act.

3.Publicly Commit to ending wasteful, unnecessary border spending and improve accountability and oversight of CBP.

4.Publicly Commit to abolishing the continuous employment and above poverty level requirements for adjustment of status within any immigration reform piece of legislation.

5.Publicly Commit to protecting all workers’ labor and civil rights.  Our immigration policies should reflect our country’s core values of fairness and respect for work.

6.Publicly Commit to be inclusive of the LGBTQ Community within any immigration reform legislation.
