There is a drug epidemic on Long Island and our loved ones are not capable of choosing life over drugs. We need a law in place that allows family members of drug addicts to gain power of attorney over their loved ones, when said person cannot choose food, lodging, safety, mental health, family, etc. over using drugs. A family needs to be able to make tough decisions, including mandatory incarceration into mental health programs and/or drug rehabilitation programs at the request of the family, so that the family can participate in saving the lives of the ones they love.

Right now, a drug addict can enter and leave a program at will, regardless of their mental, physical and health condition and live in the woods if they choose. Current HIPPA Laws prevent family members from being involved in their treatment, success and/or failures until it is too late.

Too many of our loved ones are dying because they are incapable of making adult decisions. The deaths of our loved lonesome usually affect the entire family, especially young children, when they are involved in the process.

Let's fight Addiction as a Family, with the Love of God and the support of our government. Let's save our loved ones before its too late.
