The problem is age discrimination against Airline pilots by forcing retirement at 65. These pilots are required to pass a physical exam every six months. They must also pass annual simulator training. Additionally, there are two pilots in the cockpit with full control which is 100% redundancy for safety. In 2007 the mandatory retirement age was extended from 60 to 65. This means there is over a decade of data proving no degradation in safety with the over age 60 pilots at the controls.
