Better care and Quality of Life for people in Nursing homes, assisted living facilities
I have recently been in a variety of Nursing homes and. Rehabilitation facilities. I have personal experiences with quality of life and care issues.
I have had some pleasant experiences. But my overall experience had not been great. I have been in two different states. There is a difference in the quality of care between states. I have been outright lied too by some people. They said someone was going to be with me soon. Two hours later after being told four times that someone is coming. I learned the person I was told to wait for wasn't even in the building. I understand short staffing happens. But it is not right lie to people about someone who isn't even there.
Things have been especially tough during COVID-19. No visitors,. Than outside visiting but only a half hour. Oh and no food or drink. All while weather permitting. Than to have it cut in half. Than discontinued again. Being told you can't order food out as staff is allowed. Only being allowed to see people through windows at times. Food that is at time inedible. I got a vegetable quesadilla in one rehabilitation. It literally looked like you took salsa and drained and pressed the liquid out. I counted six pieces of fancy shredded cheese. Chick n with a funky taste you can't identify. Cold food at times.
I have been in facilities for a about a year and five months. In this time I have lost almost 80lbs. Insurance be does not cover enough time. I was only in acute rehab about a month. Than it only covered 60 days in sub acute rehab. Now I have a serious injury that might never recover. I understand that isn't everyone m. But care should never be one size fits most.
We need more people aware of what is happening. John Oliver just did a story on this.
