How many disabled American Veterans are out there recieving compensation and pension pay due to disabilities which occured during time in service? How many of you who receive travel pay for going to see your primary care physician beleive that you are not getting a decent amount of travel pay for your travel?
I am a disabled combat veteran who believes that travel pay for veterans going to see doctors at a veterans affairs medical clinic should be more then $0.41 and half cent per mile and it shouldn't be based upon the zip code you live in to the zip code the clinic is in. In todays economy the amount we do receive is barely enough to cover the amount we actually have to put in our gas tanks to get us there and back. When it comes to the health care for men and women like myself we shouldn't have to suffer when it comes to going to the doctor or putting food on the table. I think that the price per mile also needs to be based on what the price of fuel in the area the veterans live. We sacrificed so much during our time in service to get nickled in dimed every day. I mean it is ridiculous for us to get $15.00 to travel to see our doctor at the VA clinic we are assigned to. We need more pay for travel. I am not saying that we need $5.00 per mile or anything like that but at least raise it to $0.75 per mile from the veteran's home to the VA clinic. I think that would be a decent price per mile for a gal of gas. I am just one veteran who is trying to get help in changing congress's mind. Now if I can get everyone who feel the same way I do to help spread the word we can hopefully get them to realize that we are not getting the amount we deserve.
