Although undocumented children are permitted to receive their elementary and secondary education in the United States once they graduate from high school there is little they can do to move forward in this country. There is very little opportunity for an individual without documentation of citizenship; consequently these individuals tend to work “under the table”. If we as a country are investing in the education of undocumented children, why not let them give back to society by joining the work force and paying taxes? If passed President Obama’s Dream Act will enable students who grew up here a chance to serve our country by enlisting in our military and/or by pursuing a higher education. This benefits our country by allowing undocumented immigrants to pay into the system as well as increasing military enrollment. Furthermore, these children were not active participants in the decision to come to the United States illegally and should not be punished for their parent’s crimes.
