With all the hype about computer hacks,Y2K as it was known, and hacked government election processes, I cant help but wonder why no one has put a stop to testing of autonomous trucking. What if Jihadist hacked Swift transportation and pulled off a Nice, France scenario? What would 2% more unemployed Americans do to our economy?

Currently, big companies such as Daimler(aka Mercedes Benz, Freightliner, etc.) Tesla, and Otto are battling it out to be first to the finish line on this idea. Needless to say, I think otto is winning. They have already tested their idea on American roadways out west and even had it deliver a load of beer. The videos from Daimler-Benz show a driver behind the wheel on an iPad while the truck does the driving. If it's autonomous, why have a driver behind the wheel? Supposedly, if it encounters a problem it can't handle, it will give a countdown so a driver can take over. Well, that's nice but if drivers had seconds to avoid all mishaps, I wouldn't think they would ever have any at all. So why the driver? I'll tell you. Its the same 30 yr old concept of blame the driver. They need humans behind the wheel to avoid all the litigation being pointed at them. But, who's going to fuel the truck? Who's going to load it? Who's going to park it? How's it going to handle an HOS violation when there isn't any parking? What if it's a windy day and it can't control itself? Will it have the intelligence to pull over? How's it going to call 911 when it gets rear ended? Who will fill out the accident form or sign the Bill of Laden? I won't do it. If they have that much sense, then they can have the truck do it. How will it hear a cop redirecting traffic or even pass a DOT inspection when asked to hit its breaks? Some things just aren't meant to be.

The very worst thing about this idea is that it will put millions out of work. At the very least it will reduce drivers wages while still being forced to miss Christmas and weddings and grandkids being born. The world is crazy for not listening to drivers all along. But now that it's to this point, it's time for the last of the Mohicans to scream out with one last final voice. Shy of this, drivers will be forced to strike. If all drivers pulled over on the side of the road folks, think about the stench of rotten foods gone bad from sitting. Or the lack of T.P when you sit down to do the deed. Or what about the lack of medicine when your sick. This is our statement. Food and medicine don't grow at Wal-Mart. A farmer grows it or a scientist invents it and truckers deliver it. We will not stand for low wages or autonomous trucking. I don't have FB or social media so please drivers pass this around. Let the world know we are ready to strike. We are not afraid to cripple a society that has crippled our industry. If it's fair for all these other bigoted groups to riot in the streets, then what's fair for the goose will soon become fair for the gander. We will be heard one way or the other. It's up to our leaders to choose now how it gets across. We aren't afraid to fight. We've been kicked around enough. A strike is inevitable unless Congress and others can see to it that these trucks never hit our roads.
