It is vital to save the Amtrak Long Distance trains that provide an extremely viable method of transportation for people who are handicapped, senior citizens & others who cannot travel by plane, bus or car long distances.
As an Amtrak frequent passenger I see a large number of travelers in both the coach and sleeping cars who use Amtrak to visit family, friends and to see America. Amtrak's current President and CEO, Richard Anderson, (Ex Delta CEO), and the Amtrak Board of Directors are currently taking major steps to disband the long distance trains by removing the dining cars and offering only cold meals on the Capitol Limited and Lake Shore routes as of June 1, 2018.
They are discontinuing the station agents in towns like Topeka, Kansas, Havre, Montana and in many such towns across America. These station agents provide service to those who are not able to use an e-ticket machine or need help with luggage. It is important that Congress act quickly before a very large number of people lose their only method of long distance transportation. Amtrak and its predecessor railroads were founded on the need to transport passengers by rail.
