Congress protect chemical security more
0 have signed. Let’s get to 1,000!
The terrible disaster at Bhopal, India, which has resulted in an estimated 25,000 deaths since 1984, should call grim attention to the need for effective security at chemical plants in the US. Yet, most are, at least, partly unguarded, and numerous events have exposed just how easy it is to breach them. The chemical industry, myopically focused on the bottom line, opposes any federal regulations requiring tighter security. The Obama Administration,
unwilling to do anything opposed by its corporate backers, takes little action. Congress must act to protect the American people in this era of terrorist attacks. I call on Congress to enact stronger chemical safety legislation that will effectively protect our chemical facilities and the communities near them.
