Poverty Among Our Youth: The Need For A Change

We are fighting for a law that will specifically target providing easily accessible employment programs and well funded educational opportunities among impoverished youth in America. We are choosing to focus especially on totally poverty stricken areas, like the Appalachian Mountains and Detroit, for example. Many children and adolescents in these regions and communities are growing up in households that earn only $25,000 to $35,000 a year, leaving them with a future filled with uncertainty.

Much of the youth that lives in poverty often do not have the resources to go to school, and tend to experience behavioral and socioemotional problems, physical health problems, and developmental delays and may often resort to dishonest ways of gaining money. If laws are passed down to create funding for these impoverished children and adolescents around the country, they will have many more opportunities.

If this law does not get passed many adolescents will have to continue living in areas with high poverty rates and poor conditions. Having a rough childhood often leads to emotional trauma that lasts throughout people’s lives; so if we do not help them now, it would not be possible to heal them completely when they are adults.  We must fight to provide better education and employment opportunities for the members of our youth that are living in impoverished conditions.
