Katie Fischer started this petition to Congress

I want to start a petition for congress to make Women’s Equality Day a Federal holiday. Have you ever even heard of Women’s Equality Day? It is a holiday that Congress didn’t even vote to make a holiday until 1971 to commemorate women’s suffrage, some 50 years after given the right to vote by congress. One would think this day would be known to all in the U.S. especially women in the United States as August 26, 1920, but I was never taught this important date and it’s significance to so many. This is the day congress finally passed women’s suffrage by just 1 vote. Prior to this women not only lacked the right to vote, but also basic human rights. One would think this holiday should be celebrated by all (a federal holiday) including men (to celebrate men like Harry Burn who reversed his anti-suffrage vote after a plea from his mother) to commemorate the jubilees that many suffragettes held to celebrate women given the right to vote that very day.
