Make Insulin more affordable with a price cap
Make Insulin more affordable with a price cap
Currently in the United States, 9 million people require insulin injections to regulate their blood glucose levels. The average diabetes patient paid $5,705 in 2016 for Insulin, almost double of the average diabetes patient in 2012. This is not including the cost of additional supplies like syringes and test strips that add up quickly. Furthermore, the current cost of an insulin vial at retail is upwards of $300, and the average patient needs 2-3 vials for a month. Meanwhile, one vial costs just 2 to 3 dollars to produce. Many people with diabetes who need insulin injections to survive cannot pay the extremely high prices of insulin vials set by drug companies, resulting in the rationing or the complete ceasing of use of insulin injections, which causes a lot of damage to the body and is potentially lethal. Please join me in making life-saving insulin affordable to everybody who needs it.
